The child colors dogs. Big ones, small ones, fluffy ones, one that looks a bit like a mop. Then they meet the cat in the dog costume and get asked, gently, whether that one belongs in the pile.
Choosing good examples is the entire subject. A child who has crossed out the mop has met bad training data years before anybody uses that phrase near them.
