Is the Asian parent joke making fun of anyone?

It is aimed at the person who wrote it.

Krisada grew up with a version of the parent in the doorway asking whether you built something today, and has spent a twenty-year career answering that question. The joke is affectionate, self-directed, and deliberately exaggerated.

Underneath it sits something we mean completely straight: expect a lot from a child early, hand them real material, and keep handing it to them. That is not a stereotype. That is the whole editorial position of this publisher.
